A dinner organized by a host you don’t know, accompanied by guests who have never met, held at a mystery location somewhere in Paris. This sounds like my kind of dinner party.
An old friend recently mentioned the New Friends Table, a secret eating and meeting club new on the Paris scene. I had also read about it on the reputable HiP Paris blog. When two seats became available, I didn’t think twice. Somehow I knew I was in for a treat, without knowing much at all. The dining adventure began. My unassuming Italian and I were warmly welcomed by our gracious English hostess, the scene decoratively set. We immediately felt at home. The mingling began and toasts were made, as the guests continued to arrive. Each one of us a pawn in this mystery dinner game, creating a uniquely diverse yet equally open-minded dynamic. A table set by destiny.
The curious cast of characters spanned the globe including London, New York, Los Angeles and of course Paris. The hostess seated us according to her intuitive whim and the dinner began. The four hours to follow included divine compositions of the freshest cheeses, meats and seafood… each plate complimented not only by a glass of wine, but with a story from the engaging (and very witty) hostess and cuisinier. With each course we became better acquainted and shared stories of our own. And in this way, over a perfectly set table for ten, new friends were made. I’ve had many a mystery dinner thus far in my Paris life, this one by far being the most memorable.
For a seat at the table contact: newfriendstable@gmail.com and make sure to book well in advance… the secret is out!
Ooh, I love the concept, how fun!
OOh-la-la! Secret dinners? Sounds very covert and provocative! So who cooks dinner? The hostess? Do they have a chef? Catered event? I now have to know more…
As soon as I heard about it I too was intrigued! The hostess entertains and cooks dinner… WOW what a culinary goddess! What strikes me as so interesting is the dynamic of each dinner is dictated upon the guests, which in the end is up to chance.
This sounds like so much fun! I’ll have to book a reservation! Are the dinners all held in the same place or does the location change?
Take your hubby one night, I took my Italian without telling him too much and it was a great surprise. The locations change which makes it even more secretive.
I”ve heard of these dinners. My daughter had even toyed with the idea of doing it here in B’ham AL, admittedly not as chic as Paris! Love they photographs. I think you made a wise decision to try it. Sounds like a lovely and very interesting evening.

Secret dinners in Alabama, now that’s an idea! Otherwise just another reason to come to Paris 🙂
This looks great! 🙂 I should definitely try it out and seems like it would be a great way to meet other people. So far I’ve had good luck with dining clubs in Paris and this one looks like it’d be worth the fun evening of chance.
Your curious and creative mind would love it. Leave it all up to chance.
Aw man I was all perked up until I saw what they wanted for a “donation”. Is that 50 euros a person?
To be honest, you will be more than happy to hand over 50 euros after wining and dining so well (and in such good company) for over 5 hours. Our night ended at 1 am! It’s most certainly worth it.
Oh that sounds lovely! We’re moving to Toronto next week and will miss all these lovely dining discoveries only found in Paris!

Sounds very interesting and I think I may have to try it one evening – merci !
You will LOVE it Gail!
Great concept! Can’t wait to give it a try!
Thanks for passing this treasure on, Kasia.
Now, this is something I must try in 2012! Thanks for the tip, Kasia! Is everything a secret, including the menu?
The menu is listed on the site though it changes seasonally. Franco-Italian and delicious! I requested the recipes 😉
Would love to try! Until that happens, I can live through you.
The kiddies don’t like surprise dinners that last over 5 hours? 😉
So glad you enjoyed. It made for a great evening. Can’t wait to return.
I have heard so much about these secret dining clubs. I’m putting it on my to do list for Paris (which I hope to visit on my 10th anniversary).
SOunds like a great concept! Would love to try….
