Fall has arrived to Paris. The chilly air a prelude to months of hibernation as night falls early and life begins to be lived indoors. But not before a little outdoor adventure. It’s the changing hues of the leaves, the feeling and vision of the earth shedding a layer in preparation for a barren winter. That is the appeal of Autumn. At least for me growing up with four seasons on the east coast of the USA.
And so, accompanied by a few friends, we took to the road in search of falling leaves. About 60 kilometers southeast of Paris, a quick train ride away, we found exactly what we sought, the forest of Fontainebleau. 108 square miles of Autumnal paradise! (Thankfully I had my GPS!)
Four hours later, enlightened by golden hues (and a little random art), we returned to Paris.
One of my favorite spots outside of Paris! My husband goes bouldering there LITERALLY every weekend. It’s an internationally renowned rock climbing site – even when he doesn’t go with his friends for a rock climbing session, they inevitably meet up with German, British, American, Italian, Polish, Danish (I could keep going) climbers who are more than happy to spot each other. Plus it’s great for walks, jogs, and picnics!
He doesn’t update the blog regularly (yet) but Mr. C has his own blog mostly about climbing (and a lot about Fontainebleau) called Le Grimpeur http://legrimpeur.tumblr.com/ (he’s so cute!)
It’s really a great (and quick) escape. Next time we want to go biking, so many great bike paths!
Nice blog from Mr.C! I see that you inspired him! 😉
I love this forest! Lovely post and beautiful pics!
Thanks! It really feels like another world. Next time I need to stop by the Chateau.
Lindsey, I checked out your husbands blog. It looks like quite the sport! I had no idea what bouldering was. Very cool.
Ahh, autumn in Paris. The color, the time change, the Boujoulais Nouveau… Seriously, the colors do seem to be more vivid this year than in recent memory. Could it be the fluctuating temperatures?
Let’s hold on to the colors and the light as long as possible…and wake up in the Spring.
Melissa – yep! He’s an avid rock climber so he also has experience climbing in the South of France on cliffs but bouldering doesn’t require a cord just a crash pad! 🙂
This sounds sooo refreshing and relaxing! And I love the yellow of Autumn 🙂
Beautiful pictures Kasia! I even love the last one with the graffiti — reminds me of home. ;P A friend has a house near Elbeuf (about 40 minutes from Honfleur). We usually go up there around this time of year and your pictures remind me of the beautiful walks in the woods we do with the kids. Who says you need to be in US East Coast to apprecaite the Fall foliage?
